Action Center for City Development (Action for the City)
Context: Development in Vietnam is uneven, and Soc Son district, located north of the city center is the poorest district in Hanoi. Most of the 10,000+ villagers of Thanh Xuan commune in Soc Son district are living at or just above the poverty line. Soc Son District is comprised of mostly farm lands, and one of two areas in Hanoi’s vicinity that produces organic vegetables. 80% of the educated youth in the community (those who have finished year 12) move to industrial zones for work with average salaries from $50 to $100 per month.
Organization: Action for the City (ACCD) is an NGO established on December 22, 2006 under Vietnam Union of Science Technology Associations (VUSTA). With diversified fields of study, with vigorous enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility, ACCD team has successfully implemented several projects that help improve quality of life for urban residents.
Each of our projects is built and realized with our desire to contribute to community development. We always welcome the partnership of every Vietnamese and international organizations and individuals; together, we will make cities all over Vietnam green, beautiful, and livable.
Current Grant: EMpower’s 2nd grant to Action Center for City Development (ACCD) supports capacity building of rural youth to be trained to enter into employment in organic agriculture or eco-tourism outside of Hanoi and Hoi An.
