Breakthrough India

In India, much work remains to eliminate continuing acceptance of violence against women and discrimination against those living with HIV. Breakthrough has developed a strategy that combines audience-friendly media and accompanying educational materials with peer-based education and local cultural forms of expression to raise awareness about human rights and effect large scale shifts in cultural norms and public opinion.

EMpower’s fourth grant to Breakthrough supports the establishment of a youth resource centre in Karnataka state as a platform to further develop its Rights Advocates Programme, which trains youth from local community organizations to become effective advocates against gender based violence, for women’s rights and against discrimination towards those living with HIV/AIDS.
