CAI (part of A Bridge for Children Int'l)
Many schools in China — particularly those in areas with a large percentage of migrants — provide instruction in core subjects only. CAI (meaning ‘talent’ in Mandarin) was founded in 2008 to give migrant young people the opportunity to develop confidence and life skills through sports.
EMpower’s second grant to CAI supports their Basketball and Football (soccer) programs in migrant schools in Beijing. Sports training is accompanied by workshops led by volunteers who impart life skills, leadership and team building to students. The program also includes a component working to train older orphaned youth to serve as mentors.
CAI is now part of A Bridge for Children International. This enables the groups to pool resources for more effective programming.
