Creating Resources for Empowerment in Action (CREA)
About half of Indian girls are married before the legal minimum age of 18, and in rural India, contraception is scarce and its use is frequently under the control of men or mothers-in-law. Through grassroots leadership development, technical assistance, and advocacy and research, CREA works to advance women’s human rights, in areas such as reproductive rights, violence against women, and sexuality.
EMpower’s first grant to CREA will expand a sports leadership program for girls that uses sports (running, football and karate) to engage girls to develop their awareness of autonomy over their own bodies, and equip them with the knowledge and skills to stay safe, health and to protect themselves from violations of their rights.
