Jabala Action Research Organisation
Poverty and lack of livelihoods drive the large scale human trafficking phenomenon in India. Jabala Action Research Organization began working in a red light district of Kolkata to promote the rights of children of sex workers, and has expanded its work to slums and outlying districts, addressing the root causes of trafficking, building confidence, knowledge and skills of formerly trafficked youth. EMpower’s current grant to Jabala supports their vocational training programs for survivors of trafficking and those at risk of being trafficked.
EMpower’s third grant to Jabala helps them continue their programs to provide basic literacy, as well as vocational training in practical skills to 75 young women who have been or are at risk of being trafficked because of their families’ economic circumstances.
