Women's Education for Advancement & Empowerment (WEAVE)
The continuing conflict in Burma has displaced thousands of ethnic minority women, many of whom end up in refugee camps on the Thai border, with limited educational opportunities (camp-based schools end at 10th grade). WEAVE, in partnership with local, indigenously-led Burmese refugee organizations, provides a comprehensive suite of programs to address this education gap, including health education, income generation, early childhood development, and women’s capacity development.
With EMpower support, WEAVE runs two continuing education programs in two refugee camps: Women’s Studies Program, which provides continuing education opportunities for young women and the Karenni Further Studies Program, for both young women and men.
