Fundación Cruzada Patagonica (FCP)

Contact: Verónica Massey
Year Established: 1979
Grant Date: February 2010, February 2009

FCP currently operates two agro-technical schools in the Patagonia region of Argentina: CEI San Ignacio (established in 1982) and Centro Educativo Agrotécnico Valle de Cholila (CEA Valle de Cholila), established in February 2008, both of which provide young people in isolated areas in Patagonia with educational alternatives that respond to local realities. FCP also provides a range of services and educational opportunities to the surrounding communities (literacy, micro-enterprise, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, intercultural education and programs that strengthen Mapuche culture, capacity-building of local organizations). EMpower‘s grants have supported key developments at the CEA Valle de Cholila; the current grant funds strategic expansion of the school‘s agro-technical training capacity, educational visits to more developed agricultural sites, beekeeping courses for local adults, and temporary housing, supervision, and integration support for new female students from remote areas where girls have little access to education or agro-technical training.
